Release Ceremony

The book was released by Dr. K. Sivan, Director and Head of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in Chennai, India.

On that occasion, the author – along with Dean Dr. Jaishanakar Ganesh of Rutgers University – endowed a Dr. Abdul Kalam Innovation Award at the Madras Institute of Technology.

The endowment will support one or more annual awards to faculty/students who generate novel innovation(s), with preference given to innovations relevant to India.

A short pre-recorded video address by the author to the audience is given below.

The Book

“By innovation, I mean serious applied research and commercialization of such research resulting in new products and services that India can own and market globally, as well as all types of innovation that creates and transforms businesses in the country and provides yet another internationally marketable product which would enable India to increase its global capital base and capabilities. It is in this focus that this book mainly differs from many of its peers.”

The Author

Dr. Vaidyanathan Ramaswami is an Indian citizen residing in the USA who had his initial education in India and later a Ph.D. from Purdue. He is an internationally acclaimed researcher. His work at the industrial laboratories - Bell Labs, Bell Communications Research, and AT&T Research – has impacted many real world systems and international standards.

Dedication

The real inspiration for this book is a forty-five minute face-to-face conversation I was privileged to have with Dr. Abdul Kalam at Anna University, Chennai, just prior to his election as the President of India. I dedicate this book to the true jewel of India, Bharat Ratna Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, who exemplified what India and Indians can achieve once they set their minds to it.
